Tiered Lesson Plans
A tiered lesson is an effective way for an educator to assign multiple tasks to students within the same lesson or unit. The tasks very according to readiness by the student, as well as by learning style and interest of the learner. All tasks can be tiered, including homework, and it gives the student the opportunity to learn at their own speed.
A tiered lesson is typically centered around one subject or unit. The teacher has a learning outcome in mind, and lets the learners know of this when the assignments are given out. The teacher typically assigns three to four tiers in the lesson, and gives a time frame of which all the tiers need to be completed. The first tier is typically an assignment that approaches the standard that is being addressed, and the last tier is an assignment that exceeds the standard addressed in the unit or lesson.

Below is a document template for a tiered lesson. When using it for gifted children, I suggest adding a "How does this fit the needs of gifted students" so you are using research to support your reasonings for your lesson.
